Café San Miguel

Direct Fair Trade Colombian Coffee

A long time favourite of many of our customers, Café San Miguel is the coffee that we first brought to you via our then novel idea of Direct Fair Trade. This coffee is grown on small-scale farms near Andes in the province of Antioquia, Colombia.

In the cup you'll find caramel and cocoa fragrances, a smooth but full bodied flavour with citrus lemon hints and a great mouth-feel.

We all know the place where we were the first time we tasted Café San Miguel.

Café San Miguel, Colombian Coffee
$15.00 300 g package

This coffee features a bold, full-body taste with hints of caramel and cocoa.  We love Café San Miguel Dark Roast best in a French Press.

In 2007 we imported 10 shipping containers of coffee from Colombia and saw 118 school scholarships and 14 university scholarships  provided for children in the coffee growing region.  Additionally, Famicafé provided funding for;

  • Hogar Pro-Juventud, a boarding house for rural students attending high-school in Andes, Colombia,
  • joint educational projects with Hogar Juvenil Campesino and 32 rural schools,
  • a benevolent fund for coffee families in crisis
  • school scholarships and health benefits for the families of women working at Fruandes fruit processing plant in Bogotá, Colombia.

Altitude: 1200m - 2000 m

Coffee Variety: Arabica
Screen Size: AA
Harvest: Primary Harvest is in October-December. A mid-year harvest called "mitaca" happens around May-June.  Smaller harvests take place year-round due to Colombia’s unique system of micro-climates.

We import Café San Miguel directly from small-scale farmers who typically farm 2-7 acres plots of coffee and bananas on the mountains near Andes, Colombia.  They grow Caturra, Borbón and Colombian variety Arabica species of coffee.  A typical farming family who sells their parchment beans to the coffee co-op in Andes, makes about $3,400 USD per year before expenses.  Education for children is often the biggest constrain on the family budget.  Farming families who sell their coffee to the Coffee Farmers' Co-op of Andes receive premium prices for their coffee directly from Level Ground Trading
