Bolivian Producer Update

Arriving at the Montaño’s homestead in September we were welcomed in the classic Aymara way: dance, song, gifts and gratitude. However, the Montaños are far from classic. They are progressive and entrepreneurial and they are determined to better their coffee quality.

The Montaños run a local coffee washing station that has become a central hub for 15 regional coffee growing families. During our visit in late September, Yrma, a social worker operating in partnership with Level Ground Trading, shared with us her vision to purchase a coffee dryer for the Montaños.

It was not long before our CEO, Hugo Ciro, agreed to purchase a micro lot of coffee from the Montaño family to help support the purchase of a dryer.

After returning from our visit, Yrma emailed us on behalf of the Montaño family; she writes, "Thank you for the opportunity to solve our quality and quantity coffee bottleneck through the advance payment of the Montaño family micro-lot. The coffee dryer purchased will be used by the community to improve coffee quality."

Yrma also sent updates of students from the coffee growing region whose scholarships are funded by Fair Trade premiums. She writes,
"Two scholarship students have graduated as agronomists: Zulma is caring for her baby and hopes to be productive in the field of agronomy which she studied; Diego went to the army as required for young men. Yhonny will graduate this year as a mechanic, and four more students will graduate in the following years. A new group of 32 students have been selected for scholarships—10 in post-secondary and 22 elementary and high school. These children of coffee farmers are all good students in their rural schools. There was a dental health campaign which benefited 2,014 children."

me alegra mucho recibir su vos de aliento y muchas gracias por darnos esa oportunidad y por el fondo para el secador que era cuello de botella para calidad y cantidad ,comentarle tambien que la cosecha de  este año sera super buena esperamos que la lluvia no afecte .

con el tema de becarios 2 becarios ya egresaron como tecnico superio en agropecuaria .Zulma apaza y Diego callizaya que ahora Diego esta en el cuartel por que es un requisito para los varones y Zulma esta esperando que tenga un año su pequeña hija y luego veremos para que ayude al agro con todo sus conosimientos ,y este año 2008 egresan 1 becario se trata de Yhonny parades en la carrera de mecanica automotris ,el año 2009 egresan 3 becarios Olvis quispe ,Gladis Quispe y Abrahan Quispe tambien en la carrera de agropecuaria y Yorka Mamani en la crrera de automotris en el año 2012 termina Adalberta a nivel licenciatura . todos estan agradecidos en este tiempo todo de la canasta familiar a subido

por otro lado los seleccionados del año pasado son 32 alumnos 5 a nivel tecnico madio y superior,5 anivel licenciatura y 22 anivel primaria y secundaria y se a hecho una seleccion bien clara hijos de productores proveedores que entregaron la moyor cantidad ,sus hijos que sean destacados en su unidad educativa ,la verdad que ya se esta biendo el inpacto y el interes de de los productores por que se a conbertido en una competencia de parte del padre a entregar mas cafe para este año y el alumno a destacarse es sus calificaciones y mas el aumento de precio del cafe tengo la seguridad que los productores de cafe ban a poder gosar de un bien estar tal como son sus deseos .

con respecto a alud fue muy bien con la campaña de salud bucal fueron beneficiados 2014 niñas y niños realmente nesesario esta campaño muchos agradecimientos de parte delos padres de familia ,alumonos autoridades y profesores me gustaria comentarle mas .pero lo are continuo .
