Famicafé Graduate hired as an Agronomist with the Colombia Coffee Federation

Congratulations Jairo!

Jairo and Mom. Congratulations on your new job as an agronomist with the Colombian Coffee Federation

This story is an example of Direct Fair Trade at work.

When Level Ground Trading purchases coffee from Colombia, a Fair Trade Premium is invested in the coffee growing community through a non-profit organization called Famicafé (Coffee Families Foundation).  Famicafé grants school scholarships to deserving students in the community.  Jairo Serna received one of these scholarships and was able to graduate from highschool.  He went on to earn a degree in Agronomy with the help of a loan from Famicafé.

Jairo  just wrote to us to tell us he has landed a job with the Colombian Coffee Federation as a field agronomist.  He is based in Salgar, a small town on the road to Andes.  Andes is the town where we purchase Café San Miguel.

He writes:

JAIRO SERNA.

Congratulations to Jairo Serna -Famicafé alumni and newly hired Agronomist with the Colombia Coffee Federation!  Jairo is living proof that investing Level Ground’s Direct Fair Trade premiums in education for rural youth, is a good investment.
