Olympic Opening Celebration Friday, February 12, from 5:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Gather with friends and family to watch CTV's LIVE Olympic coverage of the Opening Ceremonies on a giant screen in Spirit Square.
Show your support for our Canadian athletes by wearing red and white, visit our interactive Canadian Pavilion and Kids Zone, or relax with friends and enjoy a beverage in the Spirit Lounge with a great view of the screen and stage.
Enjoy the 'Cirque'-style atmosphere of Spirit Square featuring roving performers and costumed fantasy characters. Don't miss Bucan Bucan, a 13-piece 'gypsy' brass band that includes creative elements of dance, costume and audience interaction. An exciting fire performance by the Poi Pixies' Fyre and Lyte will provide a thrilling finale to the evening.
Fun and (2010 Winter) Games
Saturday, February 13, from Noon - 4 p.m.
On Saturday, the focus is on active fun, with the addition of many demonstrations and activities, including the UVIC Ski and Snowboarding Club's Rail Jam snowboard demo, salsa dancing by Caliente Dance Co. and more. Participate in Wii sport games, activities and giveaways!
Enjoy live music on stage by the lively bluegrass group Rock Island Ramblers, and the critically acclaimed contemporary folk group Outlaw Social.
Venture inside City Hall for some "Love, Poetry and Chocolate", with poetry readings by Poet Laureate Linda Rogers and local poets.
Roving performers, magicians, jugglers, stiltwalkers and giant puppets add to the fun, with plenty to do and see at the Canadian Pavilion, the Kids Zone's LEGO City and other festival attractions.
Year of the Tiger Fun
Sunday, February 14, from Noon - 4 p.m.
Sunday marks the start of Chinese New Year. Watch beautiful Chinese dance performances by Ocean Rain Chinese Arts Academy, or make your own Chinese lantern and tiger mask.
Let your creativity flow by contributing to a large Tiger lantern designed by artist Jennifer Witvliet, a community art project that will be presented to the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association.
Treats, giveaways, tastings, and our Canadian Pavilion, Kids Zone, LEGO City and other festival attractions, are all part of the fun.
(Note: The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association's annual traditional Chinese New Year Celebration and Lion Dance will take place on Sunday, February 21.)
Admission is free. Events will occur rain or shine, with most activities taking place under heated tents.
